21 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 11

The Secret Place: Where Heaven Meets Your Heart

Hey church! It’s Day 11 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts from last night that I taught at our prayer night. Sometimes life feels so full that we barely pause to pray. But let’s take a moment to reflect on the power of stepping into the secret place—a space where our hearts meet God’s.

Matthew 6:6 reminds us, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

So, what exactly happens in the secret place? It’s where our hearts get near to God’s heart.

1. The Secret Place is Where You’re Seen

People naturally want to be seen. If you don’t believe me, just look at the rise of social media. And if we’re being honest with ourselves, how many of us long to be seen? It’s in the secret place that God sees you fully—blemishes and all. There’s no performance, just His presence. He sees past your curated highlight reel to your unfiltered, raw self. And He loves you just as you are. And let me tell you, His presence is better than any platform or public promotion.

Think about King David. He wrote many of the Psalms while tending sheep, not while sitting on a throne. His secret place wasn’t a palace but a field, and it was there God prepared him to slay giants. You don’t need a perfect environment—just a surrendered heart.

2. The Secret Place is Where You’re Shaped

Transformation begins in the secret place. It’s where God performs heart surgery, cutting out pride, stitching in humility, and bandaging you with grace. Think of Moses. Before standing before Pharaoh, he spent 40 years in the desert. Why? Because God wasn’t just preparing a deliverance; He was shaping the man for the mission.

True change isn’t quick or comfortable, but it’s worth it. The secret place is where God refines and prepares you for the purpose He’s called you to. The secret place isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about lasting transformation.

3. The Secret Place is Where You’re Strengthened

If you feel drained, like life is one battle after another, the secret place is your source of renewal. Isaiah 40:31 promises, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” Waiting on God isn’t passive—it’s powerful.

Even Jesus modeled this. Before choosing his twelve disciples, He spent all night in prayer. Before enduring the cross, He agonized in Gethsemane. If the Son of God needed the secret place, how much more do we?

Practical Steps to Enter the Secret Place

  1. Set a Time – Consistency is key. Find a time and guard it like it’s a meeting with the CEO of your life, because it is.

  2. Shut the Door – Eliminate distractions. Turn off your phone, silence the noise, and focus your heart.

  3. Seek His Face – Worship. Pray. Read the Word. And then, listen. Don’t rush out; linger in His presence.

John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing.”

It’s time to get serious about the secret place because that’s where everything changes. Your perspective shifts, your faith grows, and your spirit is refreshed. You don’t leave the same way you came in.
