I Am an Heir: Access to All God Offers
Romans 8:17: “We are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
What would it look like to have a father who created all things, owns all things, rules over everything, and loves you perfectly? On top of that, one day He is going to pass all of this inheritance to all of His children as an eternal blessing. As God’s children, we are not merely followers or servants; we are heirs of God and coheirs with Christ. This means that everything that belongs to Jesus is available to us—His grace, love, and power. We are invited to partake in the boundless blessings of His kingdom, including peace, joy, wisdom, strength, and of course, eternal life.
What can change in us when we know that we are heirs to God and coheirs with Christ:
1) We find a new level of identity and worth
Recognizing that we are heirs of God reshapes our self-perception and sense of worth. We are defined by being beloved children of God, destined to inherit His kingdom.
2) We have a new purpose and mission.
Knowing we are heirs impels us to embrace a higher purpose. We have a family to be a contributor to, not just a beneficiary off. We need to care about what our Father cares about. We get the privilege to share in Christ’s mission to spread the Gospel and make disciples.
3) A new hope and perspective
Being heirs provides us with unshakeable hope and a heavenly perspective. It says we might struggle, but it will be used for glory. So this inheritance doesn’t stop my struggles, it just also includes blessing and glory on the other side of that battle, this helps us endure trials with faith. Remember, the trouble we go through does not mean God doesn't love us. It shows that we belong to Christ and He’s helping us overcome.
